JMP was developed in the mid- to lates by John Sall and a team of developers to make use of the graphical user interface introduced by the Apple Macintosh. In addition, discoveries made through graphical exploration can lead to a designed experiment that can be both designed and analyzed with JMP. These explorations can also be verified by hypothesis testingdata miningor other analytic methods. The software is focused on exploratory visual analyticswhere users investigate and explore data. JMP is used in applications such as Six Sigmaquality controland engineering, design of experimentsas well as for research in science, engineering, and social sciences. It has since been significantly rewritten and made available for the Windows operating system. It was launched in to take advantage of the graphical user interface introduced by the Macintosh.
